Included here is a very rare cut from Peter Tosh titled “Collie Weed (Weed, Weed, Weed)” which was issued on the Pressure Beat label in Jamaica in 1970. It is actually the B-side to a tune called “He’s So Real To Me.” The track is produced by Joe Gibbs with sound engineer Lynford Anderson on the mix. Tosh actually recorded a handful of tunes with Joe Gibbs at Randy’s recording studio in 1970-1971 including “Maga Dog,” “Rudie’s Medley,” “Here Comes The Judge,” “Black Dignity” and “Them A Fi Get A Beaten.” As far as I know, the tune was never released outside of Jamaica.
For all of you riddimheads out there, this tune is tracked over the same riddim as Max Romeo’s “Don’t Be Prejudice,” also produced by Joe Gibbs.
Also included here is an interview feature with Peter Tosh that appeared in Boston Rock Magazine in early 1983, just before Tosh embarked on the U.S. leg of his Mama Africa tour.
