As described by Stephen Kallao and Miguel Perez of NPR, Pachy Garcia, who goes by Pachyman on stage, helped lessen our pandemic dread in 2021 with the release of The Return of Pachyman. A record that tipped its hat to the history of reggae, dancehall and dub, but with a new vibe all its own. His new album Switched On blends the atmospheric elements of dub with a latin-infused spice that is nothing if not refreshing. I could go on and on about how talented Pachyman is as a player and dub mixer, about how his sound sweats with the authenticity of Lee “Scratch” Perry, King Tubby, or King Jammy, and about how his name deserves mention among the likes of Roberto Sanchez (Lone Ark) or JAH David Goldfine (Zion I Kings), and other modern era dub maestros, but I will let his music do the talking…
