It is July 1981 and Peter Tosh has just returned from a grueling month of touring Europe in June to support his album Wanted Dread and Alive. He is in Philadelphia to play Ripley’s Music Hall on July 25, 1981. Our good friend Randall Grass is a popular reggae DJ at the time.

Reggae was an early passion for Grass, long before it became trendy, when he was hosting “Roots, Rock, Reggae” on WXPN (88.5 FM) and writing reviews for the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin. Grass has the unique opportunity to interview the reggae star Tosh, who has conducted very few interviews to date.

I have included an excerpt from this much longer interview here for your listening pleasure. Give thanks to Randall for sharing this rare gem for all to hear.

Also included here is a review of Tosh’s performance at Ripley’s from the Reading Eagle.
