It appears that this show has been circulating with the wrong date for years.  Even the reliable Intelligent Diplomat website has the wrong date for this show.  According to the New York Times, this show at The Ritz in NYC occurred on Wednesday, July 29, 1981.  It was the second night of Tosh’s two night run at The Ritz that summer (July 28-29, 1981).    The show has circulated with the date – September 29, 1981 for as long as I can remember.

A great soundboard recording of a stellar Tosh set.  Tosh embarked on the ‘Wanted: Dread And Alive’ tour of Europe in Denmark on June 1, 1981.  The tour entered the U.S. on July 1, 1981, where Tosh played a venue in Santa Cruz, CA.  It is on this tour that Tosh plays four consecutive nights at Hollywood’s famed Roxy Theatre, the very same venue where Bob Marley and the Wailers broke through to the American audience when they played a run of shows there on the ‘Natty Dread’ tour in 1975.

It is either this set, or the set from the previous night (or both) that is featured on the ‘Wanted’ live album, however, the editing and mastering of the album bring a different sound and atmosphere to the performance.  It’s good to own both if you are a serious Tosh fan.
