MIDNIGHT RAVER’S Rocking Time: Spear Burning On Vinyl’ Radio Show

“Behold a spear burning over yonder…”

Here we have my two-part radio special titled MIDNIGHT RAVER’S Rocking Time: Spear Burning On Vinyl which hails the “Man from up in the hills, the African Teacher, the Conquering Lion, JAH’s Joe Frazier, the Creation Rebel himself – Winston Rodney AKA Burning Spear, reggae’s greatest living legend.”  The show was the brainchild of DJ NattyMouse broadcast as Parts I and II, originally airing on his REGGAE KULTURE SHOW out of Hamilton, NZ on May 29th and June 5th 2014 respectively.

The radio show begins with Spear’s early vinyl singles from Coxsone Dodd’s Studio One and takes the listener through the 1990s.  All selections are from Jah Raver’s personal record collection and include vinyl singles and LPs issued on the Studio One, Coxsone, Iron Side, Forward, Fox, Wolf, Spear, Burning Spear, Island/Mango, Heartbeat, and Déclic labels.  It also includes several live cuts from London 1977, Paris 1988, and US 1993. It includes music produced by Clement “Coxsone” Dodd, Jack Ruby, Laurence Lindo, Burning Spear, Aston “Family Man” Barrett, and Karl Pitterson, and played by the finest players of instruments ever to emerge from Jamaica.

Nearly four hours of Burning Spear on vinyl with commentary from Jah Raver and DJ NattyMouse.  This is music that changed my life.
