Recorded at Channel One in 1978, Words Sound and Power by Knowledge is one of the most significant recordings of the roots reggae golden era.

Knowledge formed in the Rema area of Kingston in 1974.  Led by vocalist Delroy Fowlin (Bronco Knowledge) the line-up included Anthony Doyley (lead vocals and main songwriter), Earl MacFarlane (vocals), Michael Smith (guitar), and Michael Samuels (vocals).

Their first single “Make Faith” was produced by Tapper Zukie and issued on his Stars label.  The soul-driven A&M label signed the group and released the album Hail Dread in 1978.  The album, produced by Zukie, featured Sly & Robbie, Chinna, Keith Sterling on keys, Sticky and Skully on percussion, and the deadly horns of Vin Gordon and “Deadly” Headly Bennett, was also issued as Word, Sound and Power on the Tappa label.

This album has been very hard to find as it hasn’t been pressed since 1978, however, I just noticed that a 2014 release is planned for the LP from Tappa.  Regardless, grab a copy of this album in whatever form you can get.
