Anyone who has browsed through this site will quickly find that there are two artists that I have a special affinity for: Bim Sherman and Hugh Mundell. These are the only two artists that I seriously collect. I’m a fanatic about collecting anything and everything Bim Sherman that I can get my hands on. In my opinion, his talent as a singer is matched by very few. I place him alongside Bob Andy, Alton Ellis, Ken Boothe, Dennis Brown, Desmond Dekker, Gregory Isaacs, etc.
So here is a heavy dose of Bim Sherman vinyl from the MIDNIGHT RAVER collection. All featured tracks were pressed to Sherman’s own Scorpio, Red Sea, and Sun Dew labels, however, some are pressed to Manzie Swaby’s Ja-Man label (“Mighty Ruler”), Micron (“100 Years”), and two tracks come from the recent Pressure Sounds reissues (“Our World” and “Tribulation”).
In 1978, eight of Bim Sherman’s Scorpio/Red Sea singles, together with the tunes “Mighty Ruler” and “Ever Firm”, were compiled for Love Forever, an album that was released by UK-based sound system operator Lloyd Coxsone on his own Tribesman label.

This truly classic late-1970 roots album was followed by 1979’s Lovers Leap Showcase (one of my top 5 favorite reggae LPs of all time). Another consistently strong collection, actually a showcase style album of vocals followed by the dub versions.

A year later Bim Sherman was featured on one side of the album Bim Sherman Meets Horace Andy And U Black, a minor but robust and enjoyable set. In the early eighties Bim Sherman settled in the UK where he teamed up with producer Adrian Sherwood.
