Dermot Hussey turned me on to this project.

Barmagrande is a four piece Roots unit that recently linked up with some of Jamaica’s best musicians and engineers for a searing new set called Liberta. The lyrics are inspired by The Most High and Buddhist Monk Thich Nhat Hanh.

Barmagrande are comprised of Sandro Donda (vox, bass and guitars), Emma Lercardi (vox, keys), Marco Donda (drums) and Massimo Dionisi (additional guitars). There are guest musicians from Morocco, Ecuador and Tibet. Jamaican legends Stephen Stewart (keys, mixing), guitarist Dalton Brownie, percussionists Scully and Sticky, hornsmen The Gayle Brothers and Alphonso Craig were brought into this great project. Recording took place at Barma Studio Latte (Italy) and Harry J’s (JA) and it was expertly mixed by Stephen Stewart and Clive Jeffrey (Dubking).

Reggae Vibes said this in their 5-star review of the album:

“To get all of these artists and engineers together for a project is no small feat! Barmagrande Presents Liberta is worth the admission price. The band itself are fully accomplished and this set will make them established! A very international affair with Roots intellect. Go out and get this one – you’re in for a treat. Go deh!”
