First, check my good friend’s blog EatWhatsOnYourPlateDC to read about my historic visit to the Churchkey in downtown Washington, DC, a city I normally avoid like the plague.  My own personal Babylon.  Hell on earth.  A toilet filled with all the filth and scum our great shining city on the hill has to offer.  But hey, good food, good friends, good night…
Here is another rare selection from the MIDNIGHT RAVER vinyl archives digitized specifically for sharing here.  Many may recognize Augustus Pablo’s “Southwest of Rhodesia” as the riddim track to Dennis Brown’s “What About The Half.”
Something very interesting about this riddim.  Although credited to Augustus Pablo by the United Sounds label, it is actually keyboard prodigy Bobby Kalphat playing the melodica/clavinet here with Phil Pratt producing.  Like many Jamaican singles from this era, it was mislabeled by the record label.
Also noteworthy is the flip side of this 7″ which is a strange “unknown” DJ track.  I can’t really put it into words, but it is unique to say the least.
Listen for yourself.
