It is early 1979 and The Wailers are on a whirlwind tour of Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and then on to Hawaii. According to guitarist Al Anderson, who I recently spoke with, this tour schedule in the spring of 1979 was exhausting. They drew crowds in excess of 50,000 during this last leg of the Babylon By Bus Tour. They would never play these venues again.
I have included a press article shared by my good friend Fred from France. It is a review of the Honolulu, HI show at the Waikiki Shell.
The audio is way over-modulated and the bass is substantially distorted, however, if you are collecting these shows, it is a must-have.

I was lucky enough to attend this concert back in May of 1979. I was given tickets by my employer, Steve Ozark who was the backstage caterer at the concert. I didn’t even know who Bob Marley was but I soon found out! I have the poster from the concert and it has hung on my wall for the past 30+ years! The feeling at this concert was unlike any other! Everyone standing up, singing, dancing as the sun went down! A true celebration of life and love!
You are truly blessed. Have you ever seen anything that compares to it since?
Dear Ras Michael, sorry for asking once more, will I be that lucky person to have this show? I am unable to download it . Thanks a million
It should work. Even though it says divshare disabled it, it should still appear as a pop-up download. Do u have popupblocker? Disable it.
I don’t have popup blocker. and I tried many times on FF and IE but doesn’t work.
Hi man,
divshare says the staff has disabled the access to the file!
I was very lucky to be at the Waikiki Shell this memorable day. I did not know much about Bob Marley and The Walers. My friend and I played soccer at Kuhio st. with The Walers during the whole week before the concert. But we did not know who they were until they left our name at the gate, so we attended for free. I had a great time and scored a beautiful girl.
If you need this show send an email to midnightraverblog@gmail.com. Divshare is fuckin up my shit.
There were only a few hundred people there at most. I remember siting down on the grass and the smell of grass in the crowd. Diamond Head was glowing with the light from the setting sun. A very light rain was falling but it drifted away just as the bass notes drifted over the crowd. A magical moment!
Yes Don ! It was a real magical moment !!!
it seems like yesterday. how lucky I was to see bob marley here in Hawaii . I had seen him in boston but this was special.watching the wailers and turning around watching the sun set.i will remember that forever.man what a day.
This was the most incredible concert and what a venue. My girlfriend and I were on holiday from New Zealand and we were right down the front. We were lucky enough to party with the band afterwards. I’m coming up sixty next year but I will never forget this. So sad looking back now to realise just how sick Bob was when doing this concert. He still gave it his all.
