The Congos formed the Congo Ashanty label immediately after having a falling out with producer Lee “Scratch” Perry so that they could press and sell their debut album HEART OF THE CONGOS. Perry, who famously produced the album, had already pressed the album to several different labels, each with a different mix. They released their next two albums on Congo Ashanty, the underrated IMAGE OF AFRICA and the magnificent CONGO ASHANTI LP before signing with the English Beat’s label GO-FEET.
They also pressed several singles to the label: “Children Crying” b/w “Open The Gate”; “Music Maker” b/w “Maker Version”; and 1999’s “Reggae Revival” b/w version.
