One of my favorite 7″ selections.

“Cassava Piece” is a foundation dub tune by the great Augustus Pablo that is instantly recognizable to any true reggae fan.  It is the primary riddim used in what many call the greatest dub track of all time “King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown,” in which Tubby weaves several of Pablo’s best tunes into a mesmerizing wall of distinct Jamaican sound. The title of the song “Cassava Piece” refers to an uptown Kingston ghetto, a structurally underdeveloped and violence-ridden community with zinc fences, shacks, stony and tiny roads, many children and few opportunities – located left and right hand side of the Constant Spring Gully.

Here we have Big Youth toasting over this most vital riddim, which runs for-I-ver in the ether like the Nile through Eqypt.

On the flip is Pablo’s “Skanking Version.”
