A:  BOBBY KALPHAT – “SOUTH WEST OF RHODESIA” (miscredited to AUGUSTUS PABLO)

Mystical melodica tune…although the label wrongly (and probably with some intention) credits Augustus Pablo as the artist, we now know this is keyboard prodigy and multi-instrumentalist Bobby Kalphat playing a killing version of Dennis Brown’s ultimate first cut of “What About The Half.”  I assume Bobby also plays the electric piano/harpsichord on this one.  The record is backed with a horrific tune by toasters Cock & Puss titled “Dragon Stout.”

This is one of the most killer instrumentals ever laid to waxand it is featured on Pressure Sounds’ latest release ‘Zion Hill’ as the very first track titled “Terminal Rock.”  ‘Zion Hill,’ a dub/instrumental album produced by Phil Pratt in 1972, never saw a proper release and drifted into relative obscurity until it was found and released by Pressure Sounds in 2013.  I highly recommend this album.  If you like Augustus Pablo, or melodica laden/keyboard driven dub, this album is the prototype.

Funny thing.  I purchased this 7″ for $6.00 USD several years ago and never knew this was a Bobby Kalphat tune featured on the obscure ‘Zion Hill’ LP until I heard the opening track of the LP.  I then proceeded to lose my shit.
