Here are 2 more calypso 7″s from my collection featuring The Mighty Sparrow singing a wicked Caribbean standard “Obeah Wedding.” Sparrow sings the holy shit out of this tune. “Ain’t nuttin’ but a gansta party” from start to finish. It’s a must listen even if you hate calypso. I would guess the year is early to mid 1960s.
These 7″s on the National label out of Panama are valued among collectors, not as much for the tune as for the quality. These things could survive a nuclear holocaust. The heaviest, highest grade vinyl I’ve ever seen in a 7″ and the sound quality is astounding. This guy sold it to me for $25.00 and he had no clue what it was. Didn’t really care. I cannot find this 7″ documented online at any of my usual haunts, but based on the others I have reviewed, I could buy my next house with it (slight exaggeration). Never worry though, this one stays right here in the bass-ment.
Same guy sold me this one for $9.00. I thought there were a lot of these, but the flip of the 7″ has a track titled “Shanty Town People” while most others have “Honesty” as the backing track.
