Another vital selection from the Doctor Dread archives. For those who don’t know, prior to starting RAS Records, Doctor Dread played an essential role in introducing reggae to the U.S. audience as he was one of several reggae radio DJs to develop a radio show devoted only to reggae. Roger Steffens, Hank Holmes, Amy “Night Nurse” Wachtel, and our own Doug Wendt AKA MIDNIGHT DREAD were also members of this legendary group of rebel DJs. Doc was one of the first to spotlight the dub poets of the day – guys like Linton Kwesi Johnson, Oku Onuora, and Mutabaruka.
So here is a copy of Muta’s first book of poems and a poem from that book called Wailin’. Also included is the killer version of his song “Drug Kulcha” – which was an early rap/rock/reggae track. This version no man cyan test!
