Bob Marley and the Wailers embark on the Kaya tour in Madison, WI, May 25, 1978.  This leg of the tour takes the Wailers through the midwest, where they play mid-sized music halls.  They play the midwest, then over to the northeast US and on to Europe.  They return to the North America on July 14, 1978 where they play in British Columbia followed by a trip down the California coast.  After playing the Roxy in Hollywood, CA on July 25, 1978 they fly east to play at the Jai Alai Fronton in Miami, FL on August 5, 1978.  On their way back east they stop over in New Orleans to play The Warehouse on July 30, 1978.

The Warehouse, located at 1820 Tchoupitoulas Street, was the main venue for rock music in New Orleans in the 1970s. It opened on January 30, 1970, with Fleetwood Mac, followed the next night by The Grateful Dead. The Allman Brothers Band were regulars.

Rock history was often made there. The Grateful Dead’s arrest on opening weekend for drug possession would be immortalized in their song “Truckin'”.  Jim Morrison’s last concert with The Doors was at the Warehouse on December 12, 1970.  The Talking Heads performed there on closing night, September 10, 1982.

Interestingly, just 5 years later in 1987,  it is the Talking Heads’ Tim Frantz and Tina Weymouth who produce Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers‘ landmark debut Conscious Party.

The Warehouse was demolished in April 1989.
