Tivoli Gröna Lund, founded in 1883 by James Schultheis, is an amusement park in Stockholm, Sweden. It is located on the seaward side of the Djurgården island and is relatively small compared to other amusement parks, mainly due to its central location, which limits expansion. Gröna Lund is a popular venue for concerts during the summer.
Bob Marley and the Wailers have just started their European tour in support of the Exodus album. Little do they know at this point that their European Exodus tour will be one of the most successful tours ever – the tour that is the tipping point to them becoming international superstars. Or that the Exodus album will mark the millennium as the BBC News‘ pick for album of the century. To them, it’s just another tour.
They play Tivoli Gröna Lund on May 20, 1977. Lucky for us as fans, someone had a tape rolling at the show and logged an excellent recording of this legendary Exodus tour performance. Some highlights of the show:
- encore break after “Lively Up Yourself“
- splendid AUD recording, only keyboards and Junior’s guitar are somewhat low
- an audible and excited crowd that often sings along and shouts
- an inferior SBD version exists
- great “The Heathen” version
- almost 10 min version of “No Woman No Cry“
- tape flip between “No Woman No Cry” and “Positive Vibration”, that’s why the latter probably cuts in
- encouraged by the crowd, the Wailers go into a nice jam during the second half of “Positive Vibration” while Bob improvises on top of it
- amazing 17-min version of “Exodus” (sound changes a few times, maybe a mix with the SBD version?)
I have included a copy of this recording here in lossless (FLAC) audio for your listening pleasure. I have also included a couple of newspaper articles which describe what is happening at the time that Bob Marley and the Wailers embark on the Exodus Tour.
The first article speaks to the shift in emphasis on more overtly political topics on the Exodus album. The second speaks to Marley’s court appearance the previous month in London for possession of ganja.

Notes:
This is THE BEST SOUNDING SHOW FROM THE EXODUS TOUR. Except for the 6/4/77 video sourced show..Now the only downside is that Exodus is cut, so we are missing about 6min of this tune. I have this show w/ the un-cut Exodus (17:43) but it is MP3 sourced and not as good sounding. I have traded a couple times for that show with the hopes it will be lossless and it is not..So take this for what it is, incomplete but lossless..A true gem..Anyone w/ problems try and find this elsewhere..(if you do seed it!!) I got this in a trade and it was hell locating/ getting this version..The version of “The Heathen” is AMAZING. Carlton and Aston are REALLY GROOVIN’ hard on this..It is a mellow show but great..
Flaws: Some of the track transitions are not smooth i.e a small click. It is not on all the track transitions though. Also the crowd can be annoying at times..They seem to be in the singing mood. But it does not take away from the show..
RIP Carlton Barrett 50-87–Feel it in the One-Drop
…DO NOT SELL..
…DO NOT ENCODE TO LOSSY FORMATS…
